Don’t get the Blues from broken windshield wipers.. Although we sell engines and other related automotive parts, I have an unrelated winter time tip for you. Since we just spent 411.00 dollars on the repair, you may be interested in what happened and why. My moms car is a 1999 Saturn SL-2. She lives in Maryland where the terrible snow storm hit and crippled the city last month. One of the problems with snow and ice building up on your...

Sweep away winter engine problems As the winter breaks and spring time comes, this is the most opportune time to do some service on your car, truck, RV, or whatever you drive. The winter this year was particularly bad, even in Florida where I live it got close to 30 degrees. That’s like 40 below zero for you northerners! Cold weather is murder on car engines. After a winter with ice and snow and extreme cold for extended periods, I suggest...

Toyota 2SFE Engines When I was asked the question about oil consumption the other day concerning these engines , I remembered a piece of information I received concerning this issue with Toyota engines. It has been reported that oil consumption on 1983-86 Toyota 2.0L 2SFE Camry engines can be excessive under certain conditions. This complaint may be made either before and after a valve job or a complete engine rebuild. The cause of this condition...

Automobile Engine Fuel Injector For most of the life of the internal combustion engine, the carburetor has been the piece of equipment that supplied fuel to the engine. On many other machines, such as lawnmowers and chainsaws, it still is. But as automobile engines evolved, the carburetor got more and more complicated trying to handle all of the operating requirements. For instance, to handle some of these tasks, carburetors had five different...

Chevy Engines with SIDI @ The Plant Direct-injection gasoline engines offer many potential advantages over conventional port fuel-injected engines for achieving vehicle fuel economy while meeting strict emission standards. Some of the potential benefits of spark-ignition direct-injection (SIDI) engines include improved thermal efficiency, better transient response, and greater displacement-specific power. However, it does come with its share...

Most car engines must have their timing belts changed around 60,000 or 80,000 miles. Since many cars have an interference engine, the valves and pistons can make contact if the valve timing is sufficiently far off, having the belt or its tensioner break could be a very expensive proposition. Wouldn’t it be smart to replace the belt sooner, or am I just being overly cautious and throwing money away? If the belt or tensioner has a failure,...

Change your engines oil When I passed McDonald’s the other day the line for the drive through was about 20 cars long. Well I was going to Subway to get a $5.00 foot-long. What struck me was here, all these folks are sitting in line for 15 to 20 minutes waiting for fast food. That is a conflicting issue. I know a lot of people waiting in line will argue they get ”work” done while waiting. One thing I did think of was all…  Read More →

Ethanol fueled engines on fire. The nation’s drive to use more alternative fuel carries a danger many communities have been slow to recognize: Ethanol fuel fires are harder to put out than gasoline engine fuel fires and require a special type of firefighting foam. Many fire departments around the country don’t have the foam, don’t have enough of it, or are not well-trained in how to apply it, firefighting experts say. It is...
